Brilliant for parties, weddings, dinner dances, promotional/training events and exhibitions. On-the-spot caricature portraits are a great icebreaker - they get people talking. I chat and joke with guests as I draw which all helps to make it a fun occasion, and your guests have a permanent souvenir to take away to remind them of their day (or night!). My caricature style is flattering but humorous so guaranteed not to offend. I draw mainly black and white outline sketches but can work in full colour if numbers are small.

For larger parties I work as a roving artist with an A4 pad, drawing quick caricatures in ink (and without the aid of an eraser!) at the rate of about 15 portraits per hour. For weddings or a dinner dance it works well if I start drawing at drinks reception and continue round the tables through the meal which usually takes about 3 hours.

For the smaller intimate party, full colour portraits might be more appropriate. I draw these sat at an easel on A3 paper in ink and pastel at the rate of 5 per hour. I need reasonable lighting to do this kind of work. It's pretty tough working by candlelight!

If you want a pianist - I do that as well! At weddings for instance, I can play piano for a civil ceremony, draw caricatures during the drinks reception and finish off with piano through the wedding breakfast, so you get two kinds of entertainer in one. See my piano page for more details.
